Friends of the Zappeion
                 
"The Friends of the Zappeion" was founded in order to facilitate the organization and presentation of cultural events at the Zappeion Exhibition Hall and the Zappeion Gardens. It will also fund the publication of books on the history of the foundation, the Zappeion Exhibition Hall, and the benefactors of the foundation.

Historically the Zappeion Foundation organized and presented cultural events such as the Pan-Hellenic Painting and Sculpture Exhibitions. It served as the home of Greece's first National Art Gallery hosting exhibitions

Exhibition of Belgian Goebelin Taperstries in 1962
Exhibition of the paintings of Caravaggio in 1962.
Exhibition of Byzantine Art with the Council of Europe in 1964

From 1965 on through 1985 over 300 art exhibitions took place at the Zappeion.

The "Friends of the Zappeion" hopes to revive this tradition of hosting world class art exhibitions at the Zappeion. Moreover, the "Friends of the Zappeion wishes to make the contributions of it's founders Evangellos and Konstantinos Zappas better known to both the Greek and international community.

The organization will be seeking private and corporate sponsorship for these events and activities.

Among the Founding Members are: Mrs. Dora Bakoyainis, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Petros Doukas, Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. S. Mathias, Honorary President of Areopagos, Mr. Lefteris Skiadas, Deputy Mayor of Athens, Mr. Ioannis Zois, President of the Epirus Confederations, and the descendants of Evangellos and Konstantinos Zappas, Mr. Ilias Liapis and Mr. George Bamichas.

A Board of Directors was elected amongst the founding members.

ADOPT  A BENCH

The Friends of the Zappeion have begun an innovative program to restore the Zappeion Gardens through an adopt-a-bench program. You can dedicate a bench and help us replace the old worn-out benches with new ones that have been especially designed for the gardens. For a donation of 500 euros your adopted bench will carry a plaque with the name of your choice.
